Manna Bread & Wine (Cactus Alley)

Today Michelle Cook, a good friend of mine and Lynn's, requested that we eat at Manna. I had no clue what this place was so I looked it up online to find a lunch menu. Everything on the menu looked FABULOUS, we just had to go! Manna Bread & Wine is a cute little place, it definitely appeals to women, or those who just want a quiet and peaceful dining experience. Lynn, Michelle and I didn't keep it quiet though, our dining experience was filled with delight and laughter.

Here's tidbits of our conversation...
"Yes we will lick the plates clean, and we are proud of it." - Michelle
"They have their own coconut cow out there. So good!" - Jenn
"It's like a celebration in my mouth before I even get the full flavor." -said Jenn, followed by Michelle saying "MMM, quote that. The more she types, the more we eat!" (pointing to Lynn and herself)
"If there is cake in heaven this is it. This is the best I've eaten in (pause) EVER!" - Lynn
"It's just a shame we choked on it!" - Michelle
"Laughing helps you digest... My teeth hurt!" - Michelle

Grilled Apple Crunch Salad w/ Chicken Breast, Kermit Burger (Chicken breast w/ Avocado) & Garlic Fries, Manna Chicken Caesar Wrap w/ Chips & Salsa are the three entrees that we split between the three of us. Then, of course, we followed it up with the most delicious dessert I have ever had... COCONUT CAKE! The three of us have planned to order a whole cake for our birthdays every year from now until we die... IT'S GOOD.

Lynn & I (and Michelle) couldn't rate Manna Bread & Wine, it blew the rating scale out of the water. We almost decided to start eating there every Tuesday and just devote our blog to Manna, but that wouldn't be fair to our readers wanting to know more about Lubbock's delightful lunch delicacies... So we will move on... for now!

Manna Bread & Wine is open Monday - Saturday from 11:00am to 10:00pm. and also open for Sunday Brunch from 11:00am to 3:00pm. (Sunday Brunch schedule due to change)
Located inside Cactus Alley at 2610 Salem Avenue. (806)791-5600

We, without a doubt, recommend Manna Bread & Wine.

Bon Apetite,
Lynn & Jenn (and Michelle)

Fat Tony's

Lynn found an article in the Avalanche Journal newspaper featuring Fat Tony's, we just HAD to go! I mean, who can resist a Chicago Style Hot Dog?! Okay, you caught me, I have never had a Chicago Style hot dog, but it sounded DELICIOUS!

Fat Tony's is located on Main & Ave J.
Open Monday-Friday for 8:00-5:00 p.m.

The atmosphere at Fat Tony's is very welcoming. Tony himself works there on a daily basis and is the first to welcome you in. He made Lynn and I feel like his #1 guests.
The kitchen is in the open, so you can see how your food is being prepared... Being OCD about the preparation of food and cleanliness myself, I was very pleased with everything... Which is rarely the case, where ever I eat.

Lynn and I split two entrees.
We , of course, ordered the Chicago Style Hot Dog with Fries. Our second order was the Meatball Sandwich with Onion Rings.

OH MY DEAR GOODNESS... the food was wonderful, but the Onion Rings brought home the Gold, they were absolutely scrumptious!

After we scarfed down our food, Lynn went over to talk to Fat Tony about the Onion Rings... hoping to get the recipe I suppose?! He didn't give away any secrets, but he was so nice, he remembered our entire order and made sure we enjoyed every bit of it! Oh, and we did!!!

Lynn and I gave Fat Tony's a 5 out if 5! YUMMY!
Though, we would like to say that this place is a working-mans lunch stop, it has no highchairs for lil ones and has only two-seater tables (which can be pulled together), 14 tables altogether.

We'd like to share our experience with some pictures... Enjoy!
We will definitely be eating here again!

Bon Apetite,
Lynn & Jenn

Angela's Cafe

Today for lunch Lynn and I had decided to eat at Angela's Cafe. We invited two of our friends, Nan and Amy to come along. None of us had ever eaten at Angela's Cafe, so we were all super excited to check it out.

Angela's Cafe is located at 2705-A 26th Street (26th & Boston).
They are open for breakfast and lunch from 6:00am-2:30pm, Monday-Saturday.
They also offer Catering, Free Tech Terrace Delivery, and Private Party Rentals.
If you like homemade food, this is the place for you.

The four of us were hooked when we walked in the door. The place was so cute, with a little built-in loft that holds a few two-seater tables. The whole cafe seats anywhere from 30-40 people at a time.

Lynn, Amy, and I had the "Tank" Sandwich, which was grilled chicken breast, swiss cheese, green chilis, and tomato on a hoagie roll with choice of one side (soup, fruit, or salad).
I ate mine with fruit, Lynn had Broc-Cheese soup, and Amy had Tomato soup. ALL OF IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!
Nan had the Spinach & Feta Quiche with a side salad. She too said it was Delicious!

We all finished lunch by splitting the "Brookie", a half brownie/half cookie delightful treat... YUM!

Angela's also has a "Frequent Diner Card", buy 10 sandwiches and get 1 FREE!

Lynn and I give Angela's Cafe a 4 (1 being poor - 5 being excellent).
We would have given them a 5, but we had to wait awhile for our food... Remember, we only have an hour for lunch... we were a few minutes late getting back to work.
We recommend calling ahead so that your food is ready when you get there.

Here is Angela's Cafe Menu: (click on images to see larger view)

We hope you'll consider Angela's Cafe. You won't regret it!

Jimenez Bakery & Restaurant

For weeks we have wanted to eat at Durango's, because Lynn had been saying how wonderful it is, but something would come up and we would decide to eat somewhere else. Today was it! We were on our way to Durango’s!
We pull into a parking lot that was near the Court House. I was looking all around for a Durango’s sign. When we got out of the car I looked up to find a sign that said “Jimenez Bakery & Restaurant”, confused I said, “Lynn, this isn’t Durango’s?” With no hesitation Lynn quickly replied, “This is what I meant! ”… After a few minutes of laughter we entered the building. The smell of fresh baked goods filled the air. We were hooked!
We headed to our seat, which was “seat yourself”. Service was fast and friendly, the atmosphere was serene. Both Lynn and I had the Antojito Special, which included an enchilada (beef, chicken, or cheese), a beef taco, a bean chalupa, beans & rice… all homemade. No joke, absolutely everything at Jimenez, that’s edible, is homemade!!! FANTASTIC!
After filling our bellies with delicious Mexican food our sweet teeth were very jealous, so we stared through the glass cases at multitudes of mouth-watering sweets… cookies, donuts, turnovers, bread, chips, Mexican pastries, etc.
We selected “a few” cookies of sorts, which was very difficult because every last bit of the bakery goods looked wonderful. We paid our ticket and “rolled” on back to the office. The cookies were delish!
Lynn & I voted and we give Jimenez Bakery & Restaurant 5 stars!!!

Jimenez’s Hours of Operation:
The Restaurant hours:
Monday – Friday 7:00 - 3:00 p.m
Saturday 7:00 - 2:00 p.m.
The Bakery hours:
Monday – Saturday 7:00 - 7:00p.m.
Restaurant & Bakery are closed on Sundays

This place was muy delicioso!

Bon Apetite,

Lynn & Jenn
